What to Do in Your Divorce Case – Vignettes from the Breakups of the Rich and Famous

Lesson #2: Put your children first

Alright, let us review lesson #1, which I posted on November 30, 2015. Don’t defame your spouse, especially in a highly publicized divorce case. This lesson was learned by the ex-wife of former professional football and baseball player Deion Sanders. The ex-Mrs. Sanders ended up with a $2.2 million-dollar judgment against her for fabricating allegations of domestic violence against her ex. This will cost her a large portion of her divorce settlement.

On to Lesson #2.

Fortunately, there are definitely some positive examples in the breakups of the rich and famous that we can learn from as well.

Case in point: The breakup of Drew Barrymore and Will Kopelman. (I will always remember Drew Barrymore as that cute little kid in the movie E.T. from my childhood).

In connection with their breakup, this couple has stated “sadly our family is separating legally, although we do not feel this takes away from us being a family. Divorce might make one feel like a failure, but eventually you start to find grace in the idea that life goes on.”

And, they continued, “our children are our universe, and we look forward to living the rest of our lives with them as our first priority.”

There is not much that can be added to that, especially the last statement. Here is wishing them and their children, Olive, 3, and Frankie, 23 months, the very best going forward.
