The statute of limitations for an action on a judgment in Utah is eight years. See Utah Code Section 78B-2-311.

If a person has a judgment against their ex-spouse in a divorce matter, they will want to collect on it before the expiration of the eight year statute of limitations.

If, for whatever reason, they are unable collect in that time frame, they should file a motion to renew the judgment before the expiration of the eight-year limitation period.

If the motion to renew is filed before the statute of limitations expires, but the order renewing the judgment is signed after the statute expires, the renewed judgment will still go into effect as of the date of the expiration of the old judgment.
