C was an adult disability recipient of disabled adult child benefits based on the earnings record of her deceased parent. She was confined to a mental institution and required a representative payee to manage her social security benefits.

C gave birth to a child and was personally responsible fa hospital bill on connection with the childbirth. The child soon became a ward of the state.

C’s representative payee inquired whether he could use $500 of conserved funds from C’s disability benefits to contribute to the hospital bill.

The answer was yes, as long as C’s current and reasonably foreseeable future needs were being met.
